ORGANIZATION
A
strong community based planning and management group is essential to
secure and sustain the long term support for byway development. For the
Coulee Corridor, that organization is the Coulee Corridor Consortium
(CCC).
Byway Organization:
The organization is a volunteer based not for profit (501 c6) group with
an adopted set of bylaws, an elected set of officers, and professional
services provided by member partners. The group meets monthly to conduct
business and annually (March) hosts its Big Event: a dinner and night of
celebrating the stories of the Coulee Corridor. The management core
group (Coulee Corridor Consortium) is comprised of private individuals
and public and private sector partners that help develop and carry out
the corridor management plan and associated improvement projects and
programs.
Purpose:
The organization's major functions are to promote sustainable tourism
along with appreciation, interpretation, and stewardship of natural and
heritage resources along the byway.
Activities and Benefits:
1) Economic Development: the byway offers enhanced promotional
opportunity by assembling a set of attractions and experiences along a
travel corridor. 2) Community Services & Amenities: the Byway helps to
improve community and traveler facilities like rest areas, gateway
centers, interpretive sites, vista pullouts, and way finding signage. 3)
Visitor Management: the Byway helps to coordinate the distribution of
visitors throughout a regional corridor and help manage potential
visitor impacts. 4) Roadway enhancements: the Byway works to improve the
road's character, quality, and safety. 5) Resource Stewardship: the
Byway offers an effective way to cultivate a greater appreciation for
the region's natural and cultural resources.
